This section contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution. Elias Voit is not done making an impact just yet. Showrunner Erica Messer recently revealed that Voit will play a (twisted) role in Season 2 as a resource for the team. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Messer likened Voit to their own version of Hannibal Lecter, stating that they would seek his help when it comes to matters regarding Gold Star. Additionally, Messer teased some relationship drama that will unfold in the upcoming season. There is a potential love triangle between Penelope (Kirsten Vangsness), Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), and Tyler (Ryan-James Hatanaka).
With Alvez now in the know, Messer mentioned to Variety that there could be a more prominent triangle among the team members’ relationships, explaining that they did not want to deny Garcia and Tyler the bond they have developed because it feels unique and genuine.
Regarding Rebecca (Nicole Pacent) and Tara (Aisha Tyler), things are not going to be easy. Messer stated in an interview with EW that they would love for the two characters to work out, but challenges lie ahead. In terms of the storyline, while the first season focused on one unsub, Season 2 of Evolution will have a hybrid approach.
Messer hinted to TV Line that out of the first four episodes, two will have a more serial format, while the other two will not. Fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution can anticipate the release of Season 2 with excitement. Messer disclosed in February that the writers have begun working on the new season, with hopes of commencing production in the spring.
As reported by TV Line, Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, but no specific release date has been announced yet. In terms of the cast, it is expected that all the main cast members from Season 1 will return for Season 2.
This includes Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Paget Brewster, and others. However, viewers might have noticed that a couple of key characters from the original series were missing in Season 1 of Criminal Minds: Evolution. Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Special Agent Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) were notably absent from the new episodes due to scheduling conflicts. Their characters were explained to be “out on assignment” in the first episode. Nevertheless, this absence does not mean that they are gone for good.
