Here’s everything you need to know about the cast and characters of The Acolyte. The future of Star Wars lies in the past – specifically, a century before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. This was the end of the High Republic Era, the golden age of the Jedi and the Republic.

The Acolyte is helmed by Leslye Headland, of Russian Doll fame. Its unique setting means the Disney+ TV show largely focuses on brand new characters, and The Acolyte episode 3 even introduced a brand new Force cult. Here’s all you need to know about the cast and characters of The Acolyte.

Amandla Stenberg is Mae / Osha

Date of birth: October 23, 1989

Born in Los Angeles, California, Amandla Stenberg was named for the Zulu and Xhosa word for “Power.” She shot her first feature in 2011, working alongside Zoe Saldana in Colombiana, but her big break really came when she played Rue in The Hunger Games. In addition to her acting work, Stenberg is a skilled violinist.

Character: Amandla Stenberg is the star of The Acolyte, playing the twins Osha and Mae. The two girls originate from the planet Brendok, where they were separated after a mysterious tragedy. Osha became a Jedi Padawan, although she dropped out of this training in the end; Mae seems to have been found by the Sith, and has launched a brutal vendetta against the four Jedi who visited Brendok 16 years ago.

Lee Jung-jae is Jedi Master Sol

The Korean actor Lee Jung-jae’s breakthrough came in the award-winning movie An Affair in 1998. He’s enjoyed a successful career as both an actor and a model, but has recently gaiined international fame for his role in Netflix’s hit show Squid Game. Jung-jae has recently expanded into directing, working on the 2022 movie Hunt.

Rebecca Henderson is Vernestra Rwoh

Date of birth: June 4, 1980

Active since: 2008

A talented actress and producer, Rebecca Henderson is the wife of The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland. The showrunner knew she wanted her wife involved from an early stage, but for quite some time it was unclear which role she’d take on. Speaking to Empire, Henderson revealed she became drawn to the character of Vernestra Rwoh.

Character: Headland plays Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh, the only previously-existing character in The Acolyte. Vernestra Rwoh is a Mirialan Jedi Master who’s 116 years old by the time of the show, possessed of an unusual degree of Force-sensitivity. By this time, she appears to be the Master of the Order – the most respected member of the Jedi, who speaks with the voice of the entire order.

Dafne Keen is Jecki Lon

Dafne Keen made her debut in Logan back in 2017, when James Mangold chose her to play the part of X-23 – Wolverine’s female clone. Mangold saw a video of the teenager scrambling over bookcases, and he quickly concluded she was the right choice. Since then, Keen’s career riise has been meteoric, leading to her current role in The Acolyte. Headland knew exactly who she wanted; X-23 with a lightsaber.

Character: Dafne Keen plays Jecki Lon, the young Padawan of Master Sol. A Theelin, Jecki still has some memories of her homeworld, and in interviews Keen has suggested she has a deep sense of abandonment that motivates her. The Acolyte tells the story of Jecki’s first mission, which doesn’t appear to be going too well.

Charlie Barnett is Yord Fandar

Accomplished theater performer Charlie Barnett made his small-screen debut on Chicago Fire, starring for three seasons as Peter Mills. Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength, celebrated on the Out100 Entertainers of the Year list for 2019. Barnett is engaged to set dresser and designer Drew Bender.

Character: Yord Fandar is a Jedi Guardian, recognized for his distinctive yellow lightsaber. Something of a stickler for the rules, Yord trained alongside Osha but completed his training and is now a Jedi Knight. He’s assigned to investigating the mysterious Jedi assassinations alongside Sol.

Joonas Suotamo is Kelnacca

Date of birth: October 3, 1986

A Finnish actor and former professional basketball player, Joonas Viljami Suotamo’s acting career began as a body double for Peter Mayhew during Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Mayhew’s age and ill health meant he was unable to continue the role, and Suotamo took over with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He’s essentially become Lucasfilm’s go-to actor for Wookiees.

Character: Joonas Suotamo plays Jedi Master Kelnacca, the first Wookiee Jedi to be seen in live-action Star Wars. Little is known of Kelnacca’s history and character, although he appears to be a mechanic. Kelnacca has become something of a recluse in recent years, making him a difficult target for Mae.

Carrie-Anne Moss is Jedi Master Indara

Date of birth: August 21, 1967

Active since: 1989

Born and raised in Vancouver, Carrie-Anne Moss will forever be considered Hollywood royalty for her role in The Matrix. This role demanded a phenomenal physical performance, and she went through intense training, earning a career as an action hero. She has a long history of popular and critically-acclaimed roles, but this is her first appearance in Star Wars.
Character: Carrie-Anne Moss plays the ill-fated Jedi Master Indara, who led a mission to the planet Brendok some 16 years before The Acolyte. Indara is a skilled and capable warrior, exuding confidence in battle. Unfortunately, she quickly learns she’s met her match.

Jodie Turner-Smith is Mother Aniseya

Date of birth: September 7, 1986

Active since: 2013

A British actress and model, Jodie Turner-Smith emigrated to the United States after her parents’ divorce when she was 10 years old. She moved to Los Angeles in 2009, with her big break in TNT’s The Last Ship. Turner-Smith worked with Kogonada in his movie After Yang, and has joined him on The Acolyte.

Character: Jodie Turner-Smith plays Mother Aniseya, leader of a coven of witches with a very different philosophy of the Force to the Jedi or the Sith. Mother Aniseya has led her coven to the remote Outer Rim planet Brendok, where they hope to hide from the Jedi. She possesses vast power, knowing secrets of the Force that others would covet.
