The Acolyte Star Manny Jacinto Hasn’T Given Up On Season 2 Yet

The Acolyte’s future may have been cut short, but Qimir actor Manny Jacinto has not yet given up hopes for season 2. Despite The Acolyte season 1 finale leaving the door open for a potential season 2, it was revealed in August that Lucasfilm opted not to renew the franchise’s latest show. The move has further served to divide the already fractured nature of the Star Wars fanbase, with some viewers actively campaigning to save the show from cancellation despite its disappointing finale viewership and polarizing takes on established franchise lore.

During this year’s Dragon Con (via Star Wars Holocron on Twitter/X), Jacinto was asked what his personal goal was and responded succinctly with “season 2 of The Acolyte.” Check out a clip of his response below:

The latest comment comes on the heels of Jacinto’s co-star, Amandla Stenberg, recently sharing her own detailed and heartfelt response to the show’s online backlash and cancellation.

The Acolyte May Have Been Controversial, But Its Fanbase Is Committed

Fans Have Already Mobilized To Rescue The Show From Cancellation.

Few franchises seem capable of inspiring the same kind of passionate, and often heated, debate among fans like Star Wars. While this kind of phenomenon is far from new, as long-term Star Wars fans present during both the special edition and prequel trilogy releases will attest, recent years have seen a dramatic rise in both the frequency and potency of criticisms being leveled at the franchise’s latest entries. Nowhere is this more apparent than the highly divisive reaction that The Acolyte inspired among viewers, with the show currently holding the franchise’s most contrasting critical and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nonetheless, while some portions of the fandom may be tempted to celebrate The Acolyte’s cancellation, others still are actively mobilizing in an effort to rescue the show. At present, an online petition to renew The Acolyte for season 2 boasts 64,000 signatures accrued in less than two weeks. By comparison, the viral petition that helped to lead to the announcement of a Warrior Nun movie continuation following its own cancellation on Netflix attracted over 120,000 signatures.

Both Lucasfilm and Disney+ have already seen similar fan campaigns launched following the cancellation of the Willow sequel show, and those efforts appear to have fallen short.

However, whether this kind of online effort will have any real chance of saving The Acolyte from cancellation remains to be seen. Both Lucasfilm and Disney+ have already seen similar fan campaigns launched following the cancellation of the Willow sequel show, and those efforts appear to have fallen short. Thankfully, however, even if The Acolyte never receives a season 2 there are still plenty of opportunities for Qimir’s and Osha’s continuing dark side journey to be told in other mediums.
